This year, the Volunteer Center will be hosting a new event: the Oxfam America Hunger Banquet. Oxfam is a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. This event will randomly divide students into different “social classes”: lower, middle, and upper class. Students will then be given a meal according to their respective class and engage in discussion about the effects of hunger and poverty in America, specifically in Indianapolis.
Nearly 870 million people suffer from chronic hunger in America and more than 2.5 billion people live in poverty worldwide. Poverty is a social issue that is prevalent across the country and Indianapolis is no exception.
The event will be held in the Johnson Room of Robertson Hall on Friday, November 14th from 5:00 PM- 6:30 PM. Spots are limited to 100 students so pleas RSVP by filling out the following form: https://docs.google.com/a/butler.edu/forms/d/1PmWr1jj_zn6p8I0El3d8FWePffpyD_GTdRa1QnjZkB8/viewform?edit_requested=true
The Oxfam dinner itself is FREE, however donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated.
